An Aikido workshop was held in Baghdad with Kurt Bartholet Sensei, 7th Dan Aikikai, on February 7 and 8, 2025.
Although this was his first visit to Iraq, we have had good relations and an old friendship with Kurt Sensei that extends for many years, during which he was always a supporter and developer of Aikido in Iraq and its members with all his love and giving.
Since he is interested in the cultures and civilizations of the East, we had tours and visits to heritage and historical sites in Baghdad and outside it. "Rich country" was a phrase that Kurt Sensei often repeated at every archaeological and cultural site we visited.
Aikido training began with Kurt Sensei on Friday and Saturday, which included very useful and enjoyable exercises through which we learned important aspects of the basics of Aikido and its philosophy. The exercise comprisyed of breathing techniques, weapons, and Tachi-waza. The students benefited greatly from their experience with him.
Our experience with Kurt Sensei was not limited to the mat only, as we also learned from his philosophy and general wisdom in life through interesting conversations.
The Iraqi Aikikai was pleased and grateful to have you, Kurt Bartholet Sensei, and we look forward to seeing you again.
